Ready to start afresh? On July 5 at 6:58 p.m. EST, we have our seventh new moon of 2024, this one in nurturing, sensitive, and tenacious water sign Cancer. And it’s guaranteed to be one of the best, most powerful, and opportune New Moons of 2024. But before we get into why that is (and what it means for YOU), let’s do a quick refresh on what a New Moon actually IS.
As this (incredible and amazing) article (by yours truly) says, “New Moons are the best days to plant seeds—both metaphorically and literally. Since they mark the beginning of the lunar cycle, they are often associated with new beginnings.” Opportunities for newness, growth and goal-setting (like, say, a new job or relationships), as well as new projects and new possibilities are all to be expected on new moons, but especially so for this 2024 Cancer new moon. Why? Because the Moon LOVES being in Cancer.
2024 Cancer New Moon Explained
Seriously, in Cancer, the Moon is extra potent, which paves the way for ease and abundance in your intentions. So, if ever there was a New Moon to plant seeds—to launch something, apply for a job, have an interview for a job, go on a first date, set serious intentions for a new life—knowing the soil is rich with nutrients and moist AF, it’s July 5.**
But beyond the Moon’s comfortability in Cancer, there are also NO hindrances to this new moon. By which I mean no outer planet, inner planet or asteroid are causing a fuss. In fact, there’s only good vibes from the planets—particularly Venus, Mars, and Saturn—which make it smooth sailing for your New Moon intentions.
The Sun and Moon are conjunct in the water sign at 14°; Mars in Taurus & Retrograde Saturn in Pisces are sextile at 19°, which means Mars is sextile the Sun & Moon, and Saturn is trine the Sun & Moon, with an orb of 5°. PLUS, Venus in Cancer is conjoining the New Moon, being just 8° away from it. Now, if that sounds like a word problem from an Advanced Trigonometry class, don’t worry: it simply means there is plenty of support on this New Moon. (Which is why I’ve chosen it as the soft-release of the Kickstarter for my novel, Jupiter Returns!)
New Moon in Cancer Themes
Speaking of support…The Cancer New Moon is a day for just that: support. To work with this New Moon, you want to think about how YOU can tenaciously support your goal / intention; how you can care for it, nurture it, nourish it; how you can tend to and parent the seed you plant. Ask yourself: What does tenacious care look like for you and your goal(s)?
Beyond this, it’s important to remember: Cancer is a cardinal sign; and despite this sign’s penchant for holding onto the past, Cancer loves to start something new. Cancer especially loves starting new things that can be nurtured, and that will grow into something that will make Cancer lots of money and make Cancer’s mom proud. Why, you ask? Simple: SECURITY.
So, what does security look and feel like to you? What new venture can you start, what new goal can you set, what new seed can you plant that will help you attain the security you crave? Mars and Saturn Rx give this New Moon extra support, motivation and discipline for whatever this intention is—and that special conjunction from Venus, well…
Actually, let’s talk about that Venus conjunction real quick.
When Venus is close to a New Moon in this way, the planet of love, pleasure, and beauty amplifies your attraction. Chani Nicholas likens this Venusian attraction to honey; because like honey, Venus’ sweetness attracts more sweetness to it, helping those sweet things stick. (Btw, sweetness in Venus’ world is anything beautiful (like art or nature), sensual (like food or a backrub), pleasurable and loving (like hugs or kisses), or wealthy (like confidence or literal money).) Which means your Cancer New Moon intention/goal has as much motivation and support as it does sweet, sticky attraction.
And while all of us can use this 2024 Cancer new moon to our benefit, the following zodiac Rising Signs won’t have to work hard to reap the rewards. So, without further ado:
