Say goodbye to the fickle and flighty times of Gemini season and grab your hanky: tomorrow, the Sun shifts into cardinal water sign Cancer, bringing a wave of moodiness, sensitivity and Lana Del Rey-worthy nostalgia.
Cancer season, which runs from June 20 through July 21, is a season of heightened feeling, heightened imagination, and hyper-inhibition. During this time of year, you are encouraged to be more compassionate, more intuitive, more sensitive to the thoughts / words / actions of others, annnnd more nurturing. But this time of year isn’t your regular, every month zodiac season shift. Oh no, Cancer season is much more than that; it's a major cosmic event.
The Solstice, which coincides with the Sun’s entrance into Cancer, heralds the official start of summer in the Northern Hemisphere and winter in the Southern Hemisphere. The entry of the Sun into Cancer during the solstice emphasizes the importance of emotional connections, family, and nurturing. It’s a time of renewal and enlightenment. The intense solar energy is believed to enhance spiritual growth and clarity. (Fancy, I know!)
While the Solstice is usually associated with extroverted activities, don’t be surprised if for the next 30 or so days you find yourself channeling your inner hermit crab, seeking solace in your shell (aka your home, car, or any safe space that doubles as a haven from the harshness of the everyday world).
This season is ruled by the Moon, the celestial body of feeling, comfort, intuition and nurturing. At once, it prompts you to think more about your needs and the needs of others, whilst also making you a mite more sensitive, sentimental, and hungry for TLC. It’s during Cancer season that you are at once tenacious and tentative, craving both attention and seclusion, whilst riding the rollercoaster of emotions that life brings.
Yearning to know ALL THERE IS TO KNOW about Cancer? That’s impossible! (Because there’s always more to learn…) Buuuut you can check out this guide on the zodiac’s first and only cardinal water sign to satisfy your curiosity.
It’s understandable during this season that you may from time to time feel a bit crabby / moody, and lash out. That’s what Crabs do. (Though I will advise against delving into Crab Mentality, which if you’re unfamiliar, is just a pop-psychology term for selfishness.) But when or how severely you’ll lash out depends on this season’s planetary transits. So, without further ado:
