Summer is almost over (boo!) but we have one last go at a new summer beginning: On Sept. 2, at 9:56 p.m. EST, we have our last new moon of summer, and this one takes place in orderly, organized earth sign Virgo.
If you haven’t heard through the astrology grapevine (i.e.: read this article about new and full moons), new moons are opportune days for initiating new projects, calling in new opportunities and hitting the refresh button. Each new moon carries with it a set of themes, and the themes of the 2024 Virgo new moon center on order, efficiency and clarity of purpose. All of which might be somewhat of a challenge around Sept. 2. Why? Well…
Jupiter in Gemini is (loosely) squaring this new moon, while Saturn Rx in Pisces (loosely) opposes it. Which basically means this new moon is as tense, as it is opportunity-laden and critical-yet-constructive. In other words: it’s a mixed bag; it can go one of two, three, or four ways. (We should expect no less from this new moon, especially since its top transits involve three double-bodied signs like Virgo, Gemini, and Pisces.)
This new moon’s ruler, Mercury (which, coincidentally, also rules both Mars & Jupiter in Gemini) is currently moving away from a hella confusing, dramatic, and existential crisis-causing retrograde. So, things are straightening out. Moving forward. Kind of.
Mercury is still in its post-retrograde shadow, which is akin to car sputtering back to life and trying to drive as if it didn’t just almost blow up at the last three stop lights. (Or maybe that’s just my car?) Then, Mars in Gemini is moving towards a tense, confusing square to Neptune Retrograde in Pisces. Yes, Mars gives you the mental energy you need to think about what you want to achieve, but its head butt with Neptune Rx could make you feel like you’ve dropped acid. And not in a good way—more like a WTF-is-going-on-and-where-am-I-going? kind of way. But sometimes confusion can be helpful, right?
How can you draw in some order in life to make your day-to-day grind more efficient and productive? How can you clarify your goals so that they align with your higher purpose? What have you been trying to grow this year? How can you be more disciplined about showing up for it? These are some of the questions to consider for the 2024 Virgo new moon. (Psst. Check out this post on intention-setting for an in-depth look at the new moon in each of the houses.)
While these planets and this New Moon will affect all zodiac signs to some degree (as described by the horoscopes below), the following zodiac signs will benefit the most:
