Apologies if the title seems click-baity, but there’s no other way to put it: 2025 is a game-changing year for astrology. That’s because we’re seeing not one, not two, but three outer planets move into new signs; this is significant because those same planets take anywhere from seven to 20 years to change signs. Even more significant: their shifts often coincide with notable cultural / political movements, major historical moments, and/or new generations.
On top of all that, the lunar nodes (which are the points where eclipses occur) are moving into new signs, bringing a new growth/release narrative to the collective and to YOU. Oh, and Mars is retrograde (in a sign it is so not comfortable in), Venus is retrograde (ditto the previous parenthetical), and all those aforementioned outer planets will be in the anaretic degrees twice this year. So, yeah. 2025 is a game changer.
It was my original intent to launch this 2025 Year Ahead Forecast to give you an in-depth look at ALL of this astrology before 2025 arrived; obviously, that didn’t happen. (I blame Mars retrograde, Mercury retrograde, and my end-of-year burn out that never fails to show up as proof that I’ve pushed myself too hard, too long for much of the year. Anyway!) I do have 2025 Rising Sign Readings available on my website, and those give an in-depth look at what the top transits of 2025 offer each Rising Sign. So, if you’re looking for an informative (and affordable!) reading for how this year is impacting YOU, do check that out.
Otherwise, shameless self-plug aside, we’ve still got a few months before this game changing astrology starts arriving. So, this year-ahead forecast doesn’t feel too late to the party. At least, I hope it doesn’t feel too late. Tbh, one of the main plot points of 2025—Venus in Pisces—has arrived, and both Mars retrograde in Cancer and the Lunar Node shift aren’t far behind. So really, this feels like perfect timing.
The following forecast features excerpts from both my Ultimate 2025 Astrology Guide & 2025 Astrology Workshop.
Mars Retrograde in Cancer (Jan. 6 - Feb. 23)
Mars isn’t thrilled to be retrograding in Cancer—it’s a fiery planet stuck in a moody, watery world. This energy clash creates slowdowns, passive-aggressiveness, and brooding resentment (hello, simmering collective temper tantrums). Plus, Mars Retrograde tends to amplify the planet’s nastier qualities, like cruelty and conflict, which we’ve already seen with Mars’ opposition to Pluto in early January. Spoiler alert: we revisit that drama in April.
But it’s not all bad news. Sure, Cancer’s emotional defensiveness might make resolution and progress feel like wading through molasses, but Mars in Cancer is nothing if not strategic. This is your chance to channel that simmering emotional energy into something productive. Refine your goals, revisit your game plan, and ask yourself: What’s been holding me back?
From now until Feb. 23 (and honestly, through April), focus on recalibration. Work smarter, not harder, by leaning into Cancer’s intuition and knack for planning. The moodiness might slow you down, but it’s also your greatest asset—tap into your feels to figure out what matters most and strategize your way to success.
North Node in Pisces / South Node in Virgo (Jan. 11)
The new eclipse series officially begins in March, with the Virgo South Node lunar eclipse. However, the lunar nodes—again, the points where eclipses happen—shift into these signs on Jan. 11. Collectively, the nodes are moving us towards a new “cycle” of growth and release. With the North Node in Pisces and the South Node in Virgo, hold on to your butt, because things are about to get chaotic—and we need to be OK with that.
Pisces wants you to surrender to the flow; Virgo demands structure and order. It’s a cosmic tug-of-war between trusting your intuition and perfecting your routines. The solution? Balance! Use the Pisces eclipses to believe and trust in what you can’t physically see, and the Virgo eclipses to release control and build systems that support your vision.
Venus Retrograde in Aries / Pisces (March 1 - April 12)
Venus Retrograde isn’t a fun transit, especially not when it moves through Aries. Venus’ craving for connection clashes with Aries’ need for independence, which may put you at odds with your partner (or with your creative muse, sense of justice, finances, and/or self-worth, as Venus rules all that too). Insecurities, self-belief, and your worthiness might be challenged. But there’s an opportunity here.
With Venus Retrograde in Aries, think about how you can retrace your steps to reclaim your confidence and redefine what’s worth fighting for. Are you chasing what you value or what you think you’re supposed to? And when Venus moves back through Pisces, we’re reviewing our (collective) capacity for compassion and connection. It starts with ourselves, yes, but it also starts with the people in power (since Aries rules leadership). That said, we may question how to balance justice and independence with empathy. Are we more focused on “winning” or on healing? This retrograde calls for recalibrating the scales of independence and unity, both in our private lives and the world at large.
