What: Mercury in Pisces

When: Feb. 14 - March 3; March 29 - April 17, 2025

Who’s Impacted: EVERYONE, but esp. Pisces & the other Mutable signs and Water signs

Takeaway: Just in time for Valentine’s Day, the thinking planet ditches its cerebral, logical vibes and dives into Pisces’ ocean of feelings and fantasy.

Feeling forgetful, daydreamy, or extra vague? Well, you soon will be. On Fri, Feb. 14, comms planet Mercury enters foggy water sign Pisces, where it will remain until March 3. It’s a shorter transit—lasting a little over two weeks—as fleet-footed Mercury seems to want to zoom through the malleable water sign quicker than usual. Hazy, dreamy, and slightly confusing, Mercury in Pisces speaks in vibes, symbols, and subconscious whispers, which makes it prime time for writing poetry and daydreaming about your ideal life. But it’s not great for logical decision-making or sticking to the facts. And since Mercury is gearing up for a retrograde rewind in March, the ideas forming now could be up for revision later. So, double-check those emails, save your drafts, and don’t believe everything you hear (or think).

Let’s be real: the logical, system-loving planet of the mind (Mercury) doesn’t particularly love being in Pisces; in fact, it struggles in Pisces. Megaphone Mercury is in detriment—aka highly uncomfortable—in Pisces. Ergo: Mercury isn’t exactly living its best life. Here’s why: Mercury likes to move quickly, solve for X, and stick to the facts. Pisces prefers to be elusive, evasive and vague, as though it's perennially living in a dream or drifting in the waters of imagination, waiting for the answer wave to wash them ashore. In other words, Pisces uses patience, intuition, and emotions to solve problems; but it also wants problems to unravel and solutions to reveal themselves, without too much force or effort.

Pisces is passive, receptive, and non-confrontational. So, communicating exactly what you mean, finding the precise word to describe your feelings, and being direct with your memos is a bit of a struggle. As I said, Mercury in Pisces speaks through symbols, dreams, and ~vibes~ more than anything else. This makes it a lovely two weeks for music, poetry, and any type of creative communication that doesn’t require too much specificity or factual basis (like a post on X). It’s not excellent for making rational decisions, sticking to the facts, or seeing things clearly. So, if you’re dealing with contracts, agreements, or something requiring precision—double-check everything.

Proofreading will be especially important around March 1, when Mercury enters its pre-retrograde shadow phase, readying you for the crunchy month of March. That’s when both Venus and Mercury retrograde, and Eclipse Season will be in full swing. Mercury first retrogrades through Aries (March 15 - 29) before it backtracks through Pisces (March 29 - April 7). So, you want to pay close attention to the ideas formulating, the plans you’re making, and the sticky tech / communication issues you may encounter over the next two weeks. These will require some serious reflection and revision come March 29.

Still, Mercury in Pisces isn’t to be feared or loathed. In fact, when Mercury surfs the ocean of Pisces, it’s an invitation to get those imagination waves churning, to swim in fantastical worlds and disintegrate the boundaries of possibility. It’s also an excellent time to summon your compassion and let your intuition be your guide. Trusting in the flow and surrendering to the (apparent) chaos is the larger theme at play this year, thanks to the North Node’s recent shift into Pisces. Mercury, the messenger and megaphone of astrology, is only amplifying this theme as it glides through Pisces.
