What: South Node Solar Eclipse in Leo

When: August 12th, 2026

TL;DR: a searing new beginning, this south node solar eclipse is asking you to let go of the validation-seeking, self-doubt, and outdated roles that no longer reflect who you are.

Look what the cat dragged in…On August 12th, we have our eighth new moon of 2026—but this isn’t just any old new moon where you plant seeds and hope they bloom as planned. Oh no, this is a South Node New Moon Solar Eclipse in Leo (try saying that five times fast), and it’s the first of its kind we’ve seen in almost two decades! So, unlike your regular, energetically stable new moon, this new moon solar eclipse isn’t asking you to set intentions for the next six months, it’s urging you to let something go and buckle up. Because it’s hurling you towards a life you may not otherwise have the courage to say yes to yourself.

Yep, you can think of this 2026 Leo Solar Eclipse less as a cozy fresh start, and more of a tenderizing reset—for your selfhood, identity, creativity, and confidence. It’s the onset of a searing new chapter that requires you to actually close the previous one before you can begin to move forward. It’s also the first of just two Leo solar eclipses we’ll have over the next 18 months. So it’s the inception of a new storyline for your creative self and identity that won’t reach its conclusion until August 2027. Shady? A little. Charged? Abso-freaking-lutely.

Getting Over Stage Fright

Roaring in at 20° Leo, this solar eclipse conjoins the South Node—aka the astrological point of release, shedding, and letting go. So, August 12th is new beginning that’s being built on the rubble of something you’re in desperate need of releasing. (Or, like I say in this TikTok video, a version of yourself you’re needing to molt.) What, exactly, you’re releasing (molting) is tied to which part of the Leo archetype you lean into / shy away from.

Now, other astrology resources will tell you this Solar Eclipse is about releasing vanity, pride, and any ego-driven, performance-based, external-validation-seeking parts of self that have been quietly running the show or keeping you from shining full-wattage—and they’re not wrong, but they’re also only looking at half of it.

For a lot of us (myself included), the part of ourself we’re needing to shed isn’t an overinflated ego, it’s stage fright. Lack of confidence. Dwindling self-belief that keeps you from being who you really want to be or pouncing on the opportunities that change your life. A paralyzing fear of rejection that’s so deeply embedded in your creative life that you’ve slowly, quietly stopped showing up for the parts of yourself that once felt most alive.

Book a Chart Reading

As a Leo Rising, I’m feeling this to my core. Since prioritizing social media to grow my business, I’ve drifted away from the various forms of self-expression that used to define who I was: The music, painting, and creative writing I relied on to help me express and make sense of myself. I’ve been so disconnected from them for so long that I’ve lost confidence in myself and who I know myself to be.

And like so many others, I’ve had to neglect those creative urges in favor of survival, in favor of building things for an audience, in favor of chasing a Public Approval Rating measured in likes, views, and follows. I’ve quietly stopped visiting those corners of myself that don’t perform for anyone—and in doing so, I’ve lost contact with the version of me that existed before the persona.

Releasing The Performance

I talked about this with my comedy teacher last week (who is a loud, flashy Leo, unsurprisingly), and he said the biggest thing he had to get over when first doing standup was exactly this: the fear of people not liking you. Not liking the real you. That’s why performers create personas—because if the audience doesn’t laugh or doesn’t approve of you when you’re on stage, it’s not a rejection of you, it’s a rejection of the character. The artfully crafted public-facing mask that shields you from the world. But what happens when the mask become the actual identity? The real you gets repressed. You lose touch with you are. You lose contact with who you want to be and lose sight of what you really want to be known for.

As I’ve talked about before, this Leo South Node Solar Eclipse is a loss that leads to a new beginning. (The “loss” can take many forms, from loud to subtle.) It’s asking you to take off the mask that you’ve curated for audience approval, shake off an old identity, and step away from the performative roles so that you can become the full-wattage version of yourself that shines for you. Not for an audience—likes, views, follows, subscribes, or Public Approval, but for you. You’ve got to release the performance (or the stage fright) to begin anew.

Now, I know you’re probably thinking: “But Camille, I’m a normal person. I don’t perform for people online or for a room full of strangers. What does this Solar Eclipse mean for ME?” And I’ll tell ya: any outdated personal or professional roles you’ve been sustaining over the years that you know, deep down, don’t light you up anymore (or are just ready to be shed) may need to be released.

Maybe that means you’re changing industries, retiring, becoming a parent…it really depends on your life and where Leo is in your birth chart. (More on that in a moment.) Across the board, this eclipse is here for the performers, the leaders, and the people too afraid to be seen, be heard, or take the lead in their own lives.
