How Your 11th House Shapes Social Media Success
What your birth chart says about your online influence
Let’s be real: It’s hard to show up on social media. And I’m not just talking about posting frequency; I’m talking about how hard it is to muster the courage to put yourself out there in front of millions of strangers. But if you’ve been around the internet long enough, then you know that visibility on social media can help you grow your business, brand, or author platform. That’s the reality of it. Another reality? Tapping into the drives of your 11th House can help with that.
This past week, I hit a MAJOR milestone in my personal and professional life. After over a year of pushing through doubt and many underperforming cringe posts, I reached 11,000 followers on TikTok—a number I never thought I’d hit, especially not on the platform I was least excited about joining. (For context, the highest follower count I’ve ever had was around 3,900—on Tumblr. Yeah, Tumblr.) And while the internet might have you believe that growth on social media happens overnight (cue the viral success stories), let me tell you: getting to 11,000 was no overnight success.
For a chunk of 2023, I was stuck at 32 followers, imprisoned in the dreaded 200-view club, without a clue of how to get more views or “go viral.” It was nearly a year of hovering there, stagnant. Why? Well, there are a number of reasons. But it was mostly because I wasn’t fully committed; it still felt odd to put my face and voice and ideas out there. I also wasn’t posting consistently; I didn’t know what to post or what people wanted to see, and I didn’t really know who I wanted to be on social media, what I wanted to be known as.
Did I want to be funny? (Because my so-called “funny” TikTok posts went over like a fart in church.) Did I want to be serious? Woo-woo? Did I want to do those dual-person videos where I was “playing” multiple roles—also, how do I do those dual person videos where I’m playing multiple roles? (Because each time I try and make them, they don’t look right!) To be fair, I didn’t really understand how TikTok worked. I didn’t understand how to show up, let alone stand out. What’s more, I felt too old, too out of the loop, and—if I’m honest—too shy.
I’ve never been much of a social media person. I grew up as social media was born, and wasn’t ever too thrilled with it. The whole “look at my wonderful life and the gorgeous meal I had for breakfast” thing just didn’t sit right with me. Mostly because, during those years, my life was nothing anyone would share, curate, or brag about online. On top of that, I’m also a private, semi-shy person, and the idea of sharing my personal life—be it a selfie, or God forbid, a video of me dancing—with the world was and often still is...terrifying.
But I knew, deep down, if I wanted to grow my business, I needed to get over all of that. I needed to evolve. And if I looked or felt stupid in the process, so be it. So, I dove into the digital pool that is social media. For whatever reason (greater exposure, perhaps?), I chose my 32-follower TikTok. Now, 13 months later, I’m at 11,000 followers, posting regularly—sometimes 2-3 times a day; I’m also growing my presence on Instagram, YouTube, and Substack (including Substack Notes). In 13 months, I overcame my shyness, found a rhythm, and started to find my unique social media style. Which brings me back to the 11th House.
