What: Jupiter in Cancer
When: June 9, 2025 - June 30, 2026
Who’s Impacted: EVERYONE, but esp. Cardinal Signs & Water Signs
Takeaway: with the planet of plenty in the sign of its exaltation, it’s urging an expansion of your emotional world, ushering in an era of growth through care and nurturing.
For the first time in 12 years, Jupiter, the planet of expansion, optimism, and “grow or go home” is setting up shop in security-minded Cancer, the sign of home, hearth and emotional HQ. This transit is all about tapping our soft, squishy center and nurturing the parts of us (society included) that are in desperate need of care, safety, and connection. Family ties—chosen or biological—might take center stage, as will themes of belonging, tradition, security, and patriotism. Over the next 12 months, we’re getting a Jupiter-sized push to dream bigger about what security, comfort, and community really mean.
However, not every growth spurt is an easy-peasy ride of comfort—not even Jupiter ones. That’s because Jupiter amplifies everything. Like a giant cosmic magnifying glass, the gas giant expands the themes of the sign it moves through, making them bigger, more heightened, and more important. In Cancer, this means security, care, family, and money (of the nest egg persuasion) are all intensified—personally, politically, globally—but so are clannish behavior and grasping (for land, power, money, etc.), as well as an exaggerated view on homeland security and domestic safety. This is something we’re already seeing unfold with the recent LA protests and the deployment of the National Guard.
On the talking block in both news headlines, Substack Notes, and propagandized social media platforms? Outrage from LA citizens over masked-up ICE agents swarming into the city of Angels to snatch immigrant workers from the community; and the military forces deployed by the government / the Department of Defense without the state’s permission to “control” a situation that wasn’t out of hand until the National Guard and Marines actually got there. Fittingly for Gemini Season, there are two sides to this story, but both say they are acting in defense of domestic safety. Oddly enough, domestic affairs, family, home, safety, defense, immigration—who belongs where—and even the manufactured chaos targeted towards the 4th largest economy in the world: these are all Cancerian themes that the planet of plenty has already magnified.
It’s interesting to note that Mars was retrograde in Cancer at the beginning of 2025. This was a time when devastating wildfires tore through Los Angeles, destroying home after home, building after building, and community after community. Mars Retrograde in Cancer burnt parts of LA to the ground, but it also ignited a surge of care from people all over the nation; we saw thousands lose the creature comforts we often take for granted, and we cared. We acted. The retrograde red planet also lit the match for a prickly political skirmish between Newsom and Trump that has now reached absurdly dramatic heights, as the former has threatened to arrest the latter simply for defending his state.
It doesn’t help that these recent events in LA have been brewing and stewing as the Moon waxed towards its fullness in Sagittarius on June 11. Jupiter & the Moon are in mutual reception—which suggests ease, I guess—but the full moon is also squaring the Lunar Nodes. These are points where eclipses happen, where seemingly ~fated~ events transpire. (Which is partly why everything feels SO INTENSE.) What’s more, the Moon and the Lunar Nodes are all in undirected mutable signs, with the full moon shining a bright light on this lack of direction, this pivotal culmination of power abuse that’s been building since Sagittarius New Moon back in December 2024. With the Jupiter-ruled Sagittarius full moon, a decision must be made. A path must be chosen. We can move towards more lawless chaos or move towards law & order. The choice is still ours. 2025 Jupiter in Cancer has arrived to exaggerate the feelings, reactions, sentiments, and importance of this decision.
So, yeah. Hate to burst the BS bubble, but contrary to popular belief, Jupiter transits aren’t 100% luck, abundance, and good times all year round. No transit can be that. Even though Jupiter is exalted in Cancer—meaning it does really, really well in the cardinal sign, and our initiatory instincts are on high alert (in a…good way?)—2025 Jupiter in Cancer does not automatically mean that everything will suddenly smooth out. We still live in the world we live in, with the systems we live in and the authority figures still making decisions we might not like but have to suffer the consequences of. Jupiter in Cancer doesn’t change that.
It does, however, draw our attention to the things that need to change; it draws our collective and personal focus to the ways in which we need to care, build community, and protect and defend what actually needs to be protected. It also expands the importance of the things we need to grow and grow out of . Together. To grow together. To deeply care for one another, nurture one another and do our damndest to make sure everyone is fed, nourished, watered, and safe—literally and metaphorically. Of course, that’s only a quarter of the Jupiter in Cancer story. Let’s unpack the rest, shall we?
