Libra Solar Eclipse Reading
Your definitive guide to the final eclipse of 2024 + Eclipse Season Class
What: South Node Solar Eclipse in Libra
When: Oct. 2, 2024
Who’s Impacted: EVERYONE, but esp. Cardinal Signs (and Cardinal sign Big 3)
Takeaway: Hurling open the door for a new beginning in justice, equality, and allied relationships, this last eclipse of 2024 also happens to be the last eclipse on the Aries North Node / Libra South Node axis for two decades; so, it’s kind of a big deal.
I don’t usually get political in my astrological forecasts; mostly because I don’t want to ruffle anyone’s feathers. Not only is that a textbook example of my own Libra-in-the-3rd-House placement (Libra loves to be tactful and people-pleasing; the 3rd House rules writing & blogging), but it’s also a bit myopic. Because we can’t look at astrology in a vacuum; we can’t remove the context of external events that occur in our everyday lives—including events within the political / global arena—because those events often exemplify astrological transits in such on-the-nose ways, it’s almost laughable.
That said, I’m not about to get into the politics of the Israel-Hamas war, which coincidentally began around the 2023 Libra solar eclipse on Oct. 14. I will, however, point out the astrological themes that were (and still are) glaringly at play. Libra is the sign of fairness, equity, justice, and diplomacy. It wants balance in all things—whether between nations or in your relationships—and will use its charming tact to get there. But we can’t forget: Libra is also a cardinal sign, which means it’s all about action, even if it’s wrapped in a pretty bow of diplomacy. So while Libra likes peace, it will fight for what’s right if it has to.
And as we near the 2024 Libra solar eclipse, which falls on the south node (a point tied to release and karmic baggage), we’re called to let go of the old, tired Libra traits that no longer serve us. You know the ones: people-pleasing, avoidance of confrontation, idealism so high it borders on delusion… yeah, those need to go. Because this solar eclipse—which is the last Libra south node eclipse for about two decades—is about initiating a new chapter that helps you claim your power, without needing everyone else’s approval first.

Solar Eclipse Meaning in Astrology: New Beginnings on Steroids
New moons are great for fresh starts, but solar eclipses? They’re new moons on steroids. Supercharged. A solar eclipse doesn’t just offer a reset; it’s a jumpstart that pushes you into a brand new chapter, whether you’re ready for it or not. This is why eclipses are often tied to fated events or karmic shifts. They represent times when the “fate” intervenes, course-correcting you onto a path that is more aligned with your purpose. Things can happen quickly during eclipses, and these events often feel destined or beyond your control.
Eclipses often occur near the lunar nodes—the North Node (future destiny, purpose) and the South Node (past karma, baggage). When a solar eclipse happens near one of these nodes, the energy becomes especially potent. If it’s a North Node solar eclipse, it’s pushing you toward your future growth, offering new paths and opportunities that align with your destiny. A South Node solar eclipse, on the other hand, asks you to release old patterns or behaviors that are no longer serving you.
One of the most significant qualities of a solar eclipse is its ability to bring about unexpected change. Life can feel like it’s been flipped upside down during eclipse season. This is because eclipses are known for revealing truths and exposing things that have been hidden or unresolved. Whether it’s a personal epiphany, a career shift, a breakup, or a surprising new opportunity, solar eclipses tend to illuminate what needs to change in your life. If there’s something you’ve been avoiding, ignoring, or not dealing with (especially if it relates to the house and sign the eclipse is in), expect the eclipse to make it impossible to look the other way.
Libra Meaning in Astrology
Libra gets a bad rap for being indecisive and overly concerned with keeping the peace, but that’s a lazy interpretation of this sign. Libra is ruled by Venus, planet of relationships, beauty, and all things “let’s do this together.” While it’s true Libra thrives in partnerships, there’s an initiatory urge here that we often overlook.
Libra’s cardinal energy gives it the power to spark change, especially in areas that involve social justice, diplomacy, and partnerships. As a cardinal sign, Libra is not afraid to take charge when it comes to matters of fairness and equality. It wants to lead the way in creating a more harmonious, just world. This initiatory energy makes Libra an advocate for others, often stepping in to mediate conflicts or fight for the underdog. Libra’s drive isn’t about dominating, though; it’s about creating balance and fairness in every situation.
Libra Solar Eclipse 2024: Release, Reset, Repeat
So, what makes the 2024 Libra solar eclipse such a big deal? Well, it’s happening on the south node of the moon, a point tied to karmic release, old patterns, and past-life baggage. Think of it as spring cleaning. And while we’re in Libra season, it’s the unhealthy, outdated Libra traits—like indecisiveness, imbalance, passive-aggressiveness, codependency, and over-idealizing partnerships—that need to be released. These patterns may have kept you “safe” or comfortable, but they’re also holding you back.
With Mercury in Libra conjunct this eclipse, expect to talk or think (a lot) about what needs to go. Conversations / ruminations about fairness, justice, and balance will be front and center, and you might find yourself renegotiating the terms of certain relationships or commitments. But don’t think this will be a smooth, easy ride.
Venus, the ruler of Libra, is in Scorpio, a sign of intensity and transformation, which means letting go of these toxic Libra traits is going to require some serious emotional honesty and digging. Pluto in the final degrees of Capricorn is also pushing you to confront deep-rooted power dynamics, whether that’s in your work life, love life, or personal life.
This eclipse is not here to coddle you—it’s here to help you level up by. And sometimes, leveling up means breaking free from the niceties that have been keeping you stuck in the same old loops. Sometimes, leveling up means letting go of a bad habit or unhealthy relationship pattern, or rebalancing of something in your life. Either way, expect a shake-up, a new beginning, and maybe even but a massive opportunity for growth. (Both personally and collectively.)
