Navigating the 2023 Sagittarius full moon
Astrology? Fiscal woes? Barbie and Woodstock references? It's all here, my friend.
OK, so as I continue to navigate the twists and turns of life as an astrologer / aspiring author with crippling ADHD and anxiety, the cosmos has bestowed upon you, me, and everyone in the galaxy a gift horse this week: the Sagittarius Full Moon. (It’s taking place on Sat. June 3 at 9:41 p.m. MST. And I have horoscopes for it on YouTube, btw.) As the lunar energy intensifies, so does my desire to share the ups and downs of this astrological rollercoaster with you. So, hold on tight, because we're about to dive into the real-life challenges that the Sagittarius Full Moon brings (or could bring).
Sagittarius, the adventurous archer of the zodiac, always brings a sense of wanderlust and a thirst for exploration. But let's be real, life isn't always a whimsical journey filled with sunsets and magical encounters; we can’t all be happily brainless Barbies living in Barbie Land. And no full moon is suddenly going to change that. Most of the time, life is about navigating the messy and complex realities of our existence.
So, here's the deal. A day before the full moon, Venus, the planet of love, relating and creativity, makes a harmonious trine aspect to Neptune, the planet of illusion, glamor and delusion. This is a very Woodstock ‘69 sort of transit, because both Venus and Neptune love peace, unity, art and escapism. So, on Friday you and I might feel wicked inspired, brah to paint, play/listen to music, or sculpt a vase like you’re in Ghost. However, Saturday’s Sagittarius Full Moon isn't about frolicking through fields of daisies in our minds to find artistic inspiration.
Sure, when the Moon is in Sagittarius, we’re supposed to feel buoyant and optimistic and cheerful and expansive, but it could also put us on a search for truth, particularly emotional truth (because the Moon rules the emotions, feelings, habits and instincts). And because full moons often emphasize and exaggerate the themes of the sign they’re in the way my Mom exaggerates the importance of going to Confession, this 2023 full moon in Sagittarius isn’t just about “inner truth”; it’s about confronting our personal truths and seeking growth amidst the chaos. It's about finding the courage to face our fears head-on, even when the odds seem stacked against us.
But it's not just about personal growth. The Sagittarius Full Moon also shines a light on larger societal issues, especially as it relates to wealth and the economy. (I know, I know. You’re thinking: Whoa. I wasn’t expecting Cosmic to get all economics on me. And tbh, I’m surprised too. But here’s why I’m going full-on economics-major on you: Jupiter conjunct North Node.
Jupiter is the planetary ruler–or boss, if you will–of Sagittarius. And currently, Jupiter is in Taurus. The North Node is also in Taurus. Now, the North Node is an eclipse point that symbolizes our goals, our hunger and the work we feel needs to be done ASAP (it’s thought of as a dragon’s head, if that’s a helpful picture). Taurus is the sign of wealth, security, comfort and…Wall Street. (Taurus = the Bull; and Wall Street is ruled by the Charging Bull, the bronze statue that rests in the Financial district of Manhattan.) The fixed earth sign is known (on its worst days, mind you) to be greedy, acquisitive, grasping, and stingy.
Any time Jupiter is in close connection to a planet or point, it magnifies and exaggerates the importance of that planet or point. Ergo: With Jupiter in Taurus conjunct the North Node in Taurus, the hungry, striving, goal-and-money-minded nature of the eclipse point is magnified. Which brings us back to the Sagittarius Full Moon.
The Sagittarius energy of this full moon pushes us to be the change we wish to see in the world, but the conjunction between Jupiter and North Node suggests that we should do so in a way that fiscally and financially benefits ourselves and others without being overly greedy or acquisitive. Collectively, that could mean no more talk of the debt-ceiling or the U.S. defaulting on its massive debt. Or, maybe it means more talk (remember I said Jupiter expands what it touches). After all, with Jupiter in Taurus, financial stability and security (two very important words to Taurus) is amplified. Of course in an ideal situation, the 2023 Sagittarius full moon would positively conclude a chapter on the current economic instability in the U.S., and the conjunction between Jupiter and the North Node would obliterate an impending recession and make the economy sturdy again. But that’s not likely to happen–at least not in one day.
So, as we embrace this Sagittarius Full Moon, let's remember that life isn't always a perfectly scripted adventure, and we are not instafamous travel vloggers making bank. (Unless, of course, you are an insta-famous travel vlogger making bank; then that’s a different story. Also, if you are an insta-famous travel vlogger, FUCK YOU, you lucky son of a–Wait. What was I saying? Oh, right.) Life is messy. Life is complicated. Life is unfortunately-yet-beautifully- but-also-annoyingly fucking flawed, and life doesn’t always work out the way that we want it to (especially as it relates to the financial side of life). But that’s because life is about finding the courage to chase our dreams, even when faced with personal/financial obstacles along the way. It's about acknowledging our fears and insecurities, and using them as catalysts for growth. And most importantly, it's about showing up as our authentic selves, ready to make a positive impact on the world around us.
One question I have for you to ponder this Saturday: What does it mean for you? How and in what way are you being called to show up as your authentic self so that you can make a positive impact on the world? And how can you avoid letting greeed guide your decision? (Big questions, I know, but Sagittarius is the sign of the philosopher!)
Until next time. Stay true, stay curious, and let's navigate the chaos of life together, one moon phase at a time. And don’t forget to subscribe and share this story!
