Sensuality! Activity! Anaretic Neptune and Pluto Retrograde! (Oh my!)
Your guide to a week of fresh shifts, rekindled energy, and creative unleashing
This week's astrology brings several planetary repositions, all of which swivel and center your focus on comfort, action, transformation. and empowerment. If this sounds too major to manifest in a noticeable way—it is. (Or, it will be.) As Venus & Mars glide into their home signs, it’s a double-dosed alteration you won’t notice right off the bat. But over the next four weeks, you’ll begin to see it: your desires, energy, creativity—and maybe even your confidence— veering in new (and dare I say welcomed) directions. Same goes for the major, albeit cunning shifts from Pluto and Neptune. Like the hour hand on a clock, these two outer juggernauts make deliberately slow moves, each of their ticks bringing our ideals one step forward and one step back.
If you’re confused by the cryptic lingo, don’t be. (I’m merely trying to be ~extra~.) You won’t suddenly be living a different life just because the planets are doing different things. But as we leave April in the dust, you not only waltz into a new month, you also waltz into new opportunities to delve into your desires, tap into your creative potential, and harness the power of your passions. Which sounds pretty cool to me. Anyway, that is, of course, the cryptic, vague, and intriguing overview of this week. Here’s the actual astrology:
April 29 – Venus enters Taurus
April 30 – Mars enters Aries
April 30 – Venus squares Pluto
May 2nd – Pluto stations Retrograde in Aquarius
May 3 – Neptune enters the Anaretic Degree of Pisces, Mars sextiles Pluto Rx
April 29 — Venus in Taurus
So, yes: This week, the cosmos invites us to delve deep into our passions and desires as Venus glides gracefully into Taurus on April 29th. In Taurus, one of the two signs Venus rules, the planet is at peace. Cravings for sensory delights reach their peak. This transit encourages you to indulge in the finer things in life—e.g.: delectable culinary dishes, super-soft pillows, charcoal sheet masks and bubble baths, etc. Under Venus in Taurus, creativity blossoms, money matters stabilize, and your artistic endeavors are infused with sensuality and beauty—but only if you lean into and follow what feels good. If ever there was a time to reorient the practice of showing, not telling into your writing, it’s now.
April 30 — Mars in Aries
Following this, Mars, the planet of action and energy, charges into its home sign of Aries, fueling our ambitions and igniting our drive for success. With Mars in Aries, we're empowered to take bold, decisive action and pursue our goals with unwavering determination. (I’m talking to all my aspiring novelists when I say: it’s high-time to get back into book-writing mode!) Heat levels (both physical and global) could rise, so do your best to chill when you can. Oh, and be mindful of power struggles as Venus squares Pluto on the same day. This aspect can bring intensity to relationships and financial matters, urging us to confront any underlying issues and transform them for the better.
May 2nd — Pluto Retrograde
Speaking of Pluto, on May 2nd, Pluto stations retrograde in Aquarius, prompting us to delve into the depths of our subconscious and uncover hidden truths. This retrograde period offers an opportunity for deep introspection and profound inner transformation, but mostly on a collective level. It’s once again time to face our shadows about the power imbalances in society.
May 3rd — Mars setile Pluto, Anaretic Neptune
And when Mars sextiles Pluto on May 3, we're encouraged to channel our passion and determination into constructive action, paving the way for positive change and growth.
Also happening on May 3, Neptune moves into the anaretic degree of Pisces, infusing our dreams and visions with otherworldly magic. This transit, which lasts until early Summer, puts all those Neptune and Pisces-ruled parts of life into crisis mode. That’s because the 29th degree is a degree of culmination, mastery, and crisis. It literally means the planet is about to leave the sign, but also metaphorically means there’s still a job to do, still lessons to learn. Neptune rules over our collective imagination, impressionability, idealism, and delusion. So, this shift into the final degree of Pisces tells me it’s time to get real—like, really real—about all the things we’ve been ignoring, escaping, or pretending doesn’t exist. I’ll have a post on the meaning of the 29th degree—because I LOVE THIS TOPIC—along with Neptune in Pisces’ placement in the degree on May 3.
Overall, this week holds the promise of deep emotional healing, profound inner growth, and the potential for transformative change. The moves from Venus and Mars signify an adjustment in how we approach our relationships and goals. Pluto’s U-turn through Aquarius, as well as Neptune’s 29-degree clock strike in Pisces, suggest a reality check. Both Aquarius & Pisces love their utopian ideals, but the two outer planets might prompt us to consider whether we’ve just been living in a fantasy land. Either way, embrace the energies at play and know that this week’s astrology isn’t here to run (or ruin) your life.
