This Week's Astrology Oct. 7 - Oct. 13, 2024
Eclipse season has ended. And if you’re like me, you felt last week’s piercing, purifying, shaken-and-stirred new-era energy. Because that’s what eclipses do; they shake, stir, and kickstart new chapters. (You can listen to my Solar Eclipse story on the Cosmic Cannibal Podcast, btw.) The eclipse’s effects will continue to reverberate for a few months. (Because that too is what eclipses do.) So, even though eclipse season is “over,” you’re not 100% out of the woodwork just yet. And this week’s astrology is a reminder of that.
If you have any placement near 21°, this week’s astrology will land for you in some way, shape or form. Because we have numerous transits occurring at that degree, and they involve air signs, fire signs, cardinal signs, and mutable signs. I don’t mention that to scare you; as if to say, “it’s gonna be one helluva week for you;” rather, I just want to encourage you to pay attention to what’s going on, especially in your communications and exchanges. Because the astrology taking place at 21° has a lot to do with communication, as much as it has to do with aches and pains. But more on that in a moment.
Tuesday brings a burst of passion and emotional investment in…something. There’s also an abundance of ideas and discourse, most of which revolves around growth / the future / moving forward. With that, though, comes a side of aches—metaphorically speaking. As high and mighty, bold and bright-eyed about tomorrow you might temporarily feel, there’s a tinge of hurt and self-doubt. Like, on the periphery of your forward thinking are aches and pains about your deservedness, your identity, and your growth.
Paula Abdul’s song “Opposites Attract” has the line, “I take two steps forward / I take two steps back,” and it’s a quasi duet between Abdul and MC Skat Kat. I bring this song up not only because it confuses me (because who the HELL is MC Skat Kat, and how the HELL did a song featuring an animated cat wearing pinstripe suspenders make it past the editing process?), but also because it typifies the mood of this week.
With Pluto powering forward in Capricorn, you’re hell-bent on pushing through the muck and tackling those deep-seated obstacles, like a boss-level villain in your life’s video game. But Jupiter stations retrograde in Gemini, and it could pull you into second-guessing mode, making you wonder why you haven’t seen that “big breakthrough” you’ve been chasing—whether it’s in your career, relationships, or personal growth.
With all these transits stacking up—plus, the tense T-square between the Sun, Mars, and Chiron on Sunday—there’s a push to grow, but growing pains come with the territory. You might feel caught between dreaming big and having doubts about your ability to actually manifest what you want, and the courage to go after what you want might also feel unsteady at times. The key is to stay curious, not overwhelmed, and recognize that forward progress doesn’t always look like a straight line. Sometimes, you have to pull back to surge forward with more clarity (just ask any slingshot).
