YOUR 2024 April Horoscope
From Mercury Retrograde to the Aries Solar Eclipse, and everything in between
April is not a month to fuck with. Tempers, egos, and allied partnerships are already teetering on the edge (at least, in the political arena), and this month’s astrology could make things reach a boiling point. The bottom line before we get to it all: don't over-schedule yourself, plan when you can, and rest. April has a LOT going on, which means there could be a LOT coming up and happening for you. (The reverse of this is true, and you might be less impacted by these transits than most.) I don’t say this to freak you out, but I do want you to be prepared.
Venus, Mars, Mercury, and Chiron are all in the spotlight this month. So, themes surrounding relationships, aggression, miscommunications, and wounds are sure to rise up red-hot and unavoidable all month long. This will likely be visible more on the world’s stage than in your personal life—unless you’re an Aries / Aries Rising! That’s because many of April’s key transits involve the cardinal fire sign. At its best, Aries is a courageous, confident, exuberant sign; but at its worst, it can be aggressive and assertive, with an incendiary temper. So, don’t be surprised if communications, relationships, and public opinion get a little heated this month! Anyway, that’s the gist, here’s the actual astrology:
April 1 - Mercury stations retrograde in Aries, until April 25
April 4 - Venus enters Aries
April 8 - Aries Solar Eclipse, Chiron Cazimi
April 10 - Mars conjoins Saturn in 14’ Pisces
April 11 - Mercury Cazimi in Aries
April 15 - Mercury conjoins Chiron in Aries
April 19 - Venus Cazimi in Aries, Sun enters Taurus
April 20 - Jupiter conjoins Uranus, sextile Mars in Pisces
April 21 - Venus conjoins Chiron, Sun squares Pluto
April 23 - FM 4’ Scorpio, square Pluto
April 28 - Mars conjoins Neptune in Pisces
April 29 - Venus enters Taurus
April 30 - Mars enters Aries
On the 1st, Mercury stations retrograde in Aries, firing up your hastiness in all things communication (writing, emailing, planning, reasoning, etc.). Speaking of fire…with Mercury Rx in a fire sign, the trickster transit could cause circuitry to short-out and/or candles to explode. So, try to avoid literally playing with fire (candles, fire pits, etc.) if/when you can. Then on April 4, love-and- relationship planet Venus enters Aries, bringing the heat to your relationships (and maybe your wallet); Venus in Aries makes it easier to be more direct and assertive with your desires; both passion, jealousy, and exuberance, and spontaneity reign supreme.
Of course, the transit on everyone's mind this April is the Solar Eclipse, which is also in Aries. (Are you seeing a pattern here? There’s LOTS going on in Aries.) This Solar Eclipse has a Chiron cazimi, which could bring a swarm of insecurities that could temporarily wound your ego. Sensitivity is heightened, emotions could be volatile, both of which may mask themselves as intense anger. (Aries likes to show its anger more than its sadness.) This Solar Eclipse also sets you up for an uncomfortable screeching halt with a Mars-Saturn conjunction on April 10.
This alignment brings together the assertive, action-oriented energy of Mars with the disciplined, structured energy of Saturn. Currently transiting the sign of Pisces, Mars and Saturn are teaching you, me, and all the other signs another thing or two about aggression, retaliation, and the limiting effects of passivity and inactivity. (Pisces is, by and large, a peace-preferring, nonassertive, boundary-fleeing pacifist.) This conjunction means Mars’ & Saturn's energies in Pisces are combining, merging, and intensifying. And as much as Mars wants to go, Saturn tells it “no, there’s still stuff to parse out, there are things we’re committed to, responsible for,” etc. So, please don’t fuck with April 10. Rest if/when you can, and avoid trying to forcefully propel what doesn’t want to go.
After that, eclipse season ends and Taurus season begins, starting off with potentially explosive Jupiter-Uranus conjunction in Taurus. This is another MAJOR transit to mark onto your calendar. Jupiter, the planet of largesse, meets up with Uranus, the planet of disruption and all things out-of-the-blue; and this is a once-every-12-year type of transit. Jupiter expands, exaggerates and distends whatever it connects with, while Uranus can bring ah-ha moments, genius downloads, and/or sudden windfalls or losses.
Both of these planets are in Taurus, a sign connected to earth, arts, and money, so there’s a possibility this transit brings a “sudden” financial swell or reduction. Equally likely, there’s a “sudden” breakthrough or advancement in the area of YOUR life ruled by Taurus. (I’ll have more on this conjunction, the Mars-Saturn conjunction, and the Aries Solar Eclipse in the coming days.)
Following this conjunction is the deeply brooding, though potentially transformative and potently healing Scorpio Full Moon on April 23. This Full Moon squares Pluto, provoking a deep dive into the shadows. It’s bound to be a day laced with angst and loaded with mourning, grief, and feeling ALL the feels. If ever there was a day to release, sob until your face swells, and finally let go of all the shit the past six months have put you through, it’s that Scorpio Full Moon.
Then, Mercury stations direct, Venus and Mars enter the signs of their rulership, and all should be well. (I think. I HOPE.) With Venus in Taurus and Mars in Aries, the two planets are in their home signs, so there’s an ease of expression, a relief, a—dare I say—happiness. It’s easier, more comfortable, and/or effortless to ground yourself in relationships / relating, in physicality, in sensuality, and the like. These transits are a light at the end of a really rocky, maybe even literal dark tunnel.
OK. Now you can see why April is such a charged month for astrology. It’s not every month that we get a solar eclipse, a Mercury Retrograde, Chiron cazimi, AND two major outer planet conjunctions. And I’ve given you a brief summary of what these transit could or may bring to life/the world at large. But to really know where all this astrology is landing, we must look at your Sun/Rising sign.
