On Nov. 1, we have our eleventh New Moon of 2024, which takes place in impassioned water sign Scorpio. And yes, the Moon doesn’t exactly thrive in this fixed water sign, which makes all those Moon things—comfort, security, feeling nourished—slightly more challenging. And yes, thanks to that gnarly opposition between Mars & Pluto (which perfects on Nov. 3), frustration is rumbling under the surface of this new moon, which makes it even more emotionally intense than it wants to be. All of that to say, this 2024 November New Moon is a bit more combustible, but also hella transformative.
Samhain, All Saints Day, Day of the Dead—these all fall on or around the first day of November; and though they come from different cultures and religions, they have one thing in common: they all mark a moment of transition, a time when the veil between the living and dead—the light and the dark—is paper-thin. You might notice a hypersensitivity to the spirit world as we creep towards Friday; maybe you feel extra broody, mysterious, and emotionally receptive. Maybe you start to notice a budding power struggle—either internally or externally. Or maybe you can sense that something in your life is nearing its end and, rather than fearing this ending, you embrace it as just part of the deal.
Because that’s what All Saints Day, Samhain, and Day of the Dead are really all about. These are traditions meant to honor those who have passed on and celebrate their memories. So, as much as this new moon signals a new beginning—and it 100% does—it also signals a (metaphorical) death and rebirth, a slow but steady change, a shift into the new phase of life. You just might have to explore your shadows and dive deep into yourself to understand what you really want.
Known as the Frost Moon, November’s New Moon in Scorpio is about getting more in touch with your feelings and using them to transform yourself and your life for the better. But if that Mars-Pluto opposition tells us anything, it’s that there’s a struggle under the surface—though you don’t need to fear it (like I’ve been doing); instead, you can work with it. Notice what’s already ending, what is shifting, and what parts of your life feel at odds with one another. How can you balance this out? Where is the compromise? What is ending? What is beginning?
