On Jan. 29, we have our FIRST new moon of 2025—this one taking place in future-focused air sign Aquarius. Unlike other new moons, which often bring about opportunities for today, the 2025 Aquarius new moon is urging you to plant seeds for tomorrow—and the day after that and the day after that…

If you’re like me and you spent much of January catching up on work and forgetting to set your New Year goals, then this new moon is for you. Even if you did set your goals for the year—which if so, can you please tell me how you found time to do so?— this moon is also for you. Oh, and did I mention it’s one of the luckiest new moons of the year? That’s all thanks to some auspicious astrology happening alongside this new moon.

Aquarius is all about the future—hopes for the future, visions for the future, wishes for your future wishes. But the fixed air sign is also a lover of logic, systems, and new ideas. If ever there was a day to get progressive about your future, inventive about your goals, or innovative about how to achieve them, it’s Jan. 29. That’s because New moons = restart, refresh, new beginnings. So, with this New Moon in Aquarius, it’s not only offering a fresh start for your future, it also encourages a fresh start for the collective, fostering MAJOR collaboration. It also offers you a chance to bring your ideal future to life, urging you to plant seeds of growth, abundance, and success for the long-term.

2025 Aquarius New Moon trine Jupiter in Gemini

And that’s all thanks to the lucky trine it’s making to Jupiter Retrograde in Gemini. With Jupiter in such lovely contact, this new moon becomes an auspicious, optimistic, even lucky day for your goals. Why? Because Jupiter is all about joy and good fortune. The planet of plenty expands whatever it touches, bringing an abundance of ideas and opportunities waiting to be explored. Jupiter also brings a major confidence boost and encourages a positive outlook on your goals. (Btw, the Sun-Jupiter trine is exact on Jan. 30. So, Jan. 29 - 30 is a great time to set goals, start or launch new projects, apply for a job, go on a date, etc.)

With Mercury and Pluto also loosely conjunct the new moon, your goals and ideas are infused with depth, power, and longevity. Pluto in Aquarius also creates an undercurrent of deep, long-term change. This new moon isn’t just about setting short-term goals; it’s about revolutionizing your future in ways that may not even be fully visible yet. Whether that something is you, your career, your relationships, or your personal growth, this lunation invites you to think big and commit to long-term change. Pluto encourages you to go beyond surface-level resolutions and dive into what truly drives you, while Mercury in Aquarius helps you get clear and logical about your future aspirations.

But it’s important that you really think about your vision for the future and how you want to expand it. Aquarius and Gemini are air signs, meaning they operate in the realm of thoughts and ideas. Aquarius is the sign of visionary, forward-thinking concepts, while Gemini excels at simplifying and communicating ideas. Your ideas and words hold weight under this new moon, so be mindful of how you articulate your goals. Speak them into existence with intention.
