Right in the midst of the other retrogrades—Saturn Retrograde, Neptune Retrograde, Pluto Retrograde—astrology had to throw yet another backpedal at you with Mercury Retrograde. Tbh, it’s hard not to take it personally. Yes, it’s normal to have this many retrogrades around this time of year (Saturn, Neptune, and Pluto are pretty much always retrograde in July); and yes, Mercury Retrograde is a normal part of astrology. Does it cause delays? Yes. Will things feel a bit messier or convoluted for the next four weeks? Um, yeah. Still, it’s normal.

It’s also quite normal for Mercury to station retrograde around this time of year-ish. But the fact that this 2025 Mercury Retrograde, which lasts July 17/18 (depending on your time zone) thru Aug. 11, is back-strutting exclusively through Leo—after we just had Mars Retrograde in Leo, and Venus Retrograde in Leo the summer before…Well, that feels like a personal attack. And if you’re a Leo Sun, Leo Rising, or have a Leo stellium (especially if those Leo placements are between 4-15°)—hell, even if you don’t—this 2025 Mercury Retrograde in Leo is going to feel extra personal.

Tbh, it’s hard not to take things personally when planets transit Leo. Because that’s how Leo operates: by personally identifying with things. That doesn’t make the astro-Lion empathetic, per se—Leo isn’t going to walk a mile in anyone’s shoes just for the hell of it. Instead, Leo needs a personal stake in the game. So when Mercury retrogrades through Leo, we’re rethinking the messages, ideas, writing projects and plans that feel personal—the stuff tied to our pride, identity, and creative ego.
