TL;DR: The Sun’s shift into the placid, plodding earth sign urges you to tend to your soil, plant your seeds, and build something as beautiful as it is enduring, but this solar urge is immediately challenged by tense squares to Mars and Pluto.

On April 19, the Sun enters passively lax and deep-rooted earth sign Taurus, shining a light on the many ways you can be more methodical and matter-of-fact in your life. Taurus Season, which runs April 19 thru May 20, is thus, a season of dogged down-to-earthness—a time when practicality is a higher priority than gutsiness, and when patience, plodding, and persistence reign supreme.

When the Sun shifts into Taurus, the things we can taste, touch, see, smell, and hear help us stay grounded—they’re also what motivate us. Taurus Season reminds us that luxuriating in pretty much any leisurely, sensory-rich activity that gets you relaxing and feeling good, need not be a bad thing. Of course, you still work during Taurus Season, as the astro-Bull is always motivated by security and the material riches that come with it, but your approach to work is less about speedily chasing ungettable gets and more about digging your heels in to beef up what’s already there.

If you’ve read my ebook on the zodiac sign, then you already know quite a bit about Taurus. Ruled by Venus, the planet of pleasure, beauty and values, Taurus is known for its heightened senses and appreciation for all things beautiful and comfortable. Ever the builder, Taurus aims to construct things of beauty—cakes, sculptures, orchestral and/or political movements, etc.—to satisfy its sensory sensitivities and deeper yearning for comfort and security; and it constructs these things by resolutely committing to them (all the while amassing wealth).

During Taurus Season, you’re encouraged to do the same. Because truth is: we need beauty now more than ever; we need to build comfort and security; we need to stay stubborn about our desires, doggedly committing to them, and staying strong-willed about making them real. Not just for ourselves, but for each other. For our world. Because as the title of this piece says, the first week of Taurus Season is a toughie. As soon as the Sun shifts into Taurus, it encounters friction, dissent, conflict, resistance—and lots of it. From April 20 through April 23, the Sun squares both conflict aggravator Mars and wrecking ball Pluto, before the latter planets duke it out during their volatile opposition on April 26. Squares bring tension and frustration, while oppositions create a stressful tug-of-war.

So, things might not feel as pleasant and serene as Taurus would like—at least not initially. Following the combustible Mars-Pluto opposition is the New Moon in Taurus (April 27), which helps us reset and rebuild after the tumult. If Taurus teaches us anything, it’s that Rome wasn’t built in a day. Which is just idiomatic talk for: patience and persistence over time yield more fruit than quick fixes. That’s also a little idiomatic, but I trust you see where I’m going with this. Taurus really is the builder. The designer. The maker and shaper. Taurus gets its hands dirty, plays with the mud, and with both concentrated, sustained effort and methodical application of its will, forges lasting structures.

Which is what we all should do during 2025 Taurus Season. That, and play the long-game. Because this go-around the Sun, our Taurus patience will be tested, our determination will be tested, and power plays will be made; but we have opportunities to transform how we show up for ourselves and for each other, and how we build a future together. How and when we can do that, depends on the astrology. Without further ado:

Soooooo yeah, the first week, aka the April-ruled week of Taurus Season is a tense one, thanks to the Sun’s immediate square to Mars in Leo on April 20. A few days after that (April 23, to be exact), the Sun squares Pluto in Aquarius; and a few days after that (April 26) Mars opposes Pluto. Around this same time, Venus, which is the Planet in Chief this season (since Venus rules Taurus and therefore steers the ship of the entire zodiac season), conjoins Saturn on April 24 before entering Aries on April 30.

With Sun square Mars on April 20, things are edgy and irritating. There’s a clash of wills and an obvious standoff between stubborn pride and steady control; Mars is provoking the Sun, pricking, prodding, goading, rousing, and inflaming an ego. Mars is action, heat, anger, and the Sun is leadership, identity, and ego. The Sun in Taurus wants to maintain the status quo, while Mars in Leo is showy about its anger, aggression, and challenge.

After this, the Sun squares Pluto on April 23. Sun = leadership, Pluto = destruction, decimation, the underworld and all its hidden riches (ie: dark money). With the square, there’s pressure being put on leadership again, but it’s more subterranean—less obvious and showy as the Mars square, though it’s even more intense. To put it simply: the solar facade is getting dismantled. Pluto in Aquarius wants revolutionary change; the Sun in Taurus resists it.

This astrology moves us into the April 26 Mars-Pluto opposition. Mars in Leo, aka the star, is clashing with its formidable Pluto in Aquarius audience. Yes, the people are pissed and demanding that those in power: a) be held accountable, b) stop dismantling and privatizing the government to give even more money to the rich jackoffs who already profit from our pain and poverty, or c) in the words of Taurus Sun Dwayne The Rock Johnson, know their roles and shut their mouths. The opposition aspect suggests there’s a frustrating power struggle. A rivalry. A battle. And it’s connected to the last two Mars-Pluto oppositions we had in Nov. 2024 and Jan. 2025. It’s hero complex vs. hive mind.

Collectively, Sun square Mars looks like: bold challenges to authority, ego clashes, and/or power struggles between leadership and angry activists. Sun square Pluto could see power players like the tech broligarchy could finally get dragged into public accountability. The Mars-Pluto opposition is the stuff of riots, rebellions, and power grabs. Personally? These transits hit especially hard if you’ve got planets or angles in the fixed signs (Taurus, Leo, Scorpio, Aquarius) around 0–3°. From April 19 - April 27, you may feel:

• Especially stuck in a rut, but unsure / unwilling to get out of it

• Torn between control and change

• Frustrated by slow-moving power dynamics

• Desire to move forward with something, but encounter an obstacle or two

• Compelled to take bold (maybe risky) action.
