The Scorpio Full Moon Brings MAJOR Feels
Plus, Mercury stations direct and Mars buddies up with Neptune | The Astrology of the week of April 22 - April 28
Notable Astrology of the Week:
April 23 – Full Moon in Scorpio
April 25 – Mercury stations direct in Aries, Mercury conjoins the North Node in Aries
April 28 — Mars conjoins Neptune in Pisces
This week’s astrology is a mixed bag. As we move away from the much-hyped Jupiter-Uranus conjunction and the potentially tenderizing Venus-Chiron conjunction, we have a full day to ruminate on whatever revolutionary insights, earth-shattering ideas, and/or relational pain spots are in your windshield. Yep, you get one day to think about what’s in front of you before the major astrological event of this week—the Scorpio Full Moon—arrives, urging you to free-surf its waves of catharsis, will power, and regeneration.
In my Cosmic Weather Forecast for Taurus season, I called this full moon a pressure cooker, because it feels like tensions and conflict are building. We need only look at the current happenings in our world—namely, the rising tensions in the middle east—to see where this astrology is landing. We’re reaching a boiling point. Which is precisely what a full moon in Scorpio wants.
Full moons are linked to emotional swells, emotional release, and peak moments. They mark the six-month culmination of the last new moon, and are days when we see something in a brighter light than before; the issues related to the full moon’s sign come front and center. Scorpio is a fixed water sign (traditionally) ruled by Mars. It’s a complex sign that—at its absolute worst—is vindictive, revengeful, destructive, power-hungry, and extreme. At its best, Scorpio is regenerative and healing. But these healing qualities of Scorpio only come out when we release the shadows and intense feelings. When we have the courage to face our darkness.
Because Pluto, the planet of power, is in a tense aspect to this full moon (moving away from a direct square to the Sun on April 21), it’s provoking the full moon, it’s provoking our emotions and increasing our collective stress. Pluto is pushing us towards a rebirth and reorganization. The square aspect from Pluto in Aquarius to the full moon in Scorpio is also provoking our collective need to release, to regenerate, and to heal. (Scorpio is after all, a sign oh-so skilled at catharsis and regeneration.) So, it’s this moment—the moment where we reach a threshold for the maximum intensity of our emotions—that we essentially begin this “last” week of April. (The full moon is on April 23.)
Scorpio & Pluto are associated with the unseen, the unknown, the underworld. The Moon doesn’t particularly enjoy being in Scorpio because Scorpio likes to go deep. Scorpio dives into the pool of feelings, never coming up for air, exhuming and intensely experiencing emotions, pains, wounds, shadows and fears. This can be too much for the Moon. The luminary likes to feel, yes, but it also likes its comfort and security—as does Taurus. So, that’s the issue: how can you purge your deeper feelings and explore your inner underworld, without losing your sense of security? (Tip: do something to get back into your body!)
Chiron, the wounded healer asteroid, is also associated with Scorpio (as well as Sagittarius, but that secondary association doesn’t apply here). I’ve been talking about Chiron a bit lately (you can read YOUR Chiron in Aries guide, as well as your Chiron horoscope), but the asteroid’s ultimate purpose in astrology is healing. Chiron wants to help us make something whole; Chiron is a key that opens new doors and helps guide us towards turning points. So, as Venus (Taurus’ ruling planet) moves away from its touchy, tenderizing conjunction to Chiron on April 21, you might find yourself facing a turning point in your relationships, both with others and to yourself.
Currently, Chiron is also in a Mars-ruled sign (Chiron is currently in Aries). So, the Martian themes of war, conflict, aggression, dominance and retaliation, are becoming too loud for us to ignore, too pervasive for us to think they aren’t impacting us. War is war; the loss of a life—any life, regardless of the life’s religious or national association—is still a loss. Grief is grief, and we’ve been grieving loss, stressing from the tension, and embodying fear for far too long.
This, I feel, is another theme of the 2024 Scorpio full moon. Yes, it’s marking the culmination of the past six months for you, me, and everyone as individuals; but it’s also shining a bright light on the upheaval, the destruction, and the annihilation that’s literally impacting us all.
Anyway, the rest of this week sees a small upswell in helpful, morale-boosting astrology: Mercury stations direct in Aries on April 25 (it once again conjoins the North Node this same day). However, we’re not 100% out of the retrograde woodwork, as Mercury will still be in its shadow phase until early May. That said, you can expect less communication misfirings and less mental fog—just don’t let your guard down too much. It’s when we think we’re unbothered by Mercury’s mishaps that the trickster planet swoops in to humble us.
But the Mars-Neptune conjunction on April 28 might feel dampening. Mars likes to go-go-go with courage, bravado, and gumption. Neptune is the perpetual rainy day that just won’t go away. Because both planets are in Pisces, a water sign not known for its innate self-confidence / courage, you might find that you’re easily defeated by any and all obstacles that slither their way onto your path in the days leading up to April 28. Or, you might feel like you’re going nowhere with a creative project or pursuit. Or, maybe you just feel…A lot.
The best way to work with this transit? Wait. Try to avoid hurrying or rushing anything that just doesn’t seem to want to move. (And maybe channel any feelings of frustration, defeat, and/or lack of confidence into art. Better yet: let yourself get lost in another person’s art—books, movies, music, etc.) Really, waiting is a good tactic to practice this week. We’re moving through Taurus season, and if Taurus is good at anything, it’s patience. Waiting. Plodding. And doing what feels good.
