Tension, Stand-Offs, and a New Moon

This week, we’re in fixed sign Fight Club, and Pluto in Aquarius is the bouncer who won’t let anyone pass the velvet ropes without an ego transformation (ie: decimation) tax. With the Sun in Taurus butting heads with Pluto, and Mars in Leo then entering into a tug-of-war with Pluto, this astrology points to the aggressive emergence of a scandal, shake-up or visibility crisis for those in power. Something along the lines of ego bruises, dramatic exits, a bold/blinding/angry moves or a brazen rally cry from the nation reminding everyone who holds the real power. Either way, power is both the buzzword and the prize.
What this means for us collectively is simple: serious tensions are building. I mean, we don’t have to look at the astrology to know this, but the astrology does align with the tense / frustrated / aggravated feelings we’re all feeling. (So, cool…I guess?) Whether the tensions have to do with the tariff-based U.S.-China trade war, inflation/recession, the legal stand-off between the defiant Executive branch and Constitution-honoring Judicial branch, the rising strength of the opposition, or a new exhaustingly tense stand-off between this country and that, I can’t say. Chances are, it’s all of it. Because those are the tensions right now, and between April 23-26 they could get even more stressful and strained. I guess the good news is that they’re not long-term strains? Idk.

The Sun-Pluto square and Mars-Pluto opposition will land differently and more personally—especially if you have fixed sign (Taurus, Leo, Scorpio, Aquarius) placements between 0-5°—and it’s astrology that can be so helpful for breaking through. Fixed signs get a bad rap for being stubborn, while squares and oppositions get a bad rap for causing stress; but as someone with both fixed sign squares and a fixed sign opposition in her chart, let me set the record straight by saying these aspects are a goldmine for forging inner strength and confidence.
Why? Because fixed signs don’t give up. Fixed signs dig their heels in and endure until they get exactly what they want, obstacles be damned. And that is how I would work with this week’s astrology. Whatever obstacle you’re currently facing, whatever change you’re still slightly afraid to make, and/or whatever new goal you’re wanting to charge towards, Sun square Pluto and Mars opposite Pluto are going to test your stamina but they are also going to help you grow stronger so that you can break through.
The Sun-Pluto square—as tense, frustrating, and/or thwarting as it might feel in the days leading up to them, it is also motivating. Because squares are motivating. First, they create frustration, temporary dispirited, thwarted, or depressed feelings, like the weight of the world is on your shoulders and “oh my God, when will it end?” —this is especially noticeable when the square involves fixed signs, as the one does this week—but it’s through this frustration that you can find the motivation to act, to change, to DO SOMETHING. With squares, frustration = friction, and friction gets you moving. Maybe not right away, but you will get moving. We will get moving.
Now, oppositions are a different story. Oppositions are astrology’s tug-of-war aspect. They pit two planets against each other on opposite sides of the zodiac—the vibes, priorities, and characters compete and clash. This aspect screams polarization. Each planet wants its way, and neither wants to compromise. What you get is a push-pull dynamic that feels like a power struggle, a rivalry, a battle of wills where one side projects its issues or inflicts its unexpressed energies onto the other. It’s uncomfortable, yes. But also illuminating. Oppositions point to the ways in which specific planetary energies need to be combined and balanced.
In between the Fixed Sign Fight Club, Venus, Saturn, and the North Node meld together in Pisces, urging a firm commitment to the dreams and values that have been calling out to us, and an honest reality check on escapism and gaslighting. Saturn = discipline, reality, structure, and tough-love realism. The North Node = direction, evolution, the uncomfortable but necessary growth path. In Pisces, these two are helping us to put our dreams and feelings into a sturdy container, strengthen our boundaries, and trust in the unfoldment of things—which leaves us feeling overwhelmed, confused, and yearning for an escape pod. Can you be devoted to your dream without drifting into denial? This transit is a wake-up call for us personally and collectively, an urgent but subtle message to take things seriously. (This could align with some court ruling or judicial limit.)

Venus conjunct Saturn could bring an obstacle, a rejection, or a damper to your finances, creative yearnings (writer’s block, anyone?), or your relationships; but it serves as a reminder that dreams and hard work, setbacks are temporary, and good things take time. (And maybe also that platitudes are sometimes necessary.)
