I’m tired. Unmotivated. And desperately yearning to plop on the couch and zone out to Jeopardy! re-runs. Or soak in a hot bubble bath. And pretty much do anything but what I know I have to do. As much as I want to rest, the fact of the matter is: I can’t. I have to keep working. I have to keep pushing. I can’t. Just. Sit. I don’t live in a world or system that permits let alone promotes R&R, least of all when I need it most. (I’m also a workaholic whose sense of worth is dependent on her productivity. yay!) If you (like me) can’t hit pause on your life—even though you really want to—then I’m sorry. But I also have some really good news for you.
This week’s astrology brings clarity. Energy. Motivation & Inspiration. It’s sort of like a mid-afternoon cup of coffee. Yes, Mars is retrograde in Leo. Yes, Mercury is retrograde. But this week still has a high-vibe, clarifying, maybe even energizing feel to it, and it’s all thanks to the Gemini full Moon. This full moon—the last of the year—happens on Dec. 15. But this isn’t just any old full moon. No, this FINAL full moon of 2024 conjoins Jupiter Retrograde in Gemini, a cosmic combo that happens only once every 12-ish years. (So nbd, right?)
The really good news? This full moon is getting some assistance from Venus & Jupiter, aka the planets of beneficial…well, everything. (Seriously, Venus & Jupiter are just feel-good, have-fun planets that never really result in a negative outcome—don’t quote me on that, though.) Sure, Jupiter, in its detriment here (aka not living its best life), brings over-the-top energy to Gemini’s curiosity, making this a moon that might have you thinking / talking / brainstorming a lot. But it’s the good kind of a lot.
Mercury, the ruler of this full moon, stations direct the very same day in Sagittarius, which is BIG news for anyone who's been feeling stuck, miscommunicated, or just plain confused over the past few weeks. Before that, Mercury Rx aligns with Venus in Aquarius. So, it brings some of Venus’ sweetness, ease, harmony, and pleasurable vibes. Combined, this astrology makes for one hell of a high-vibing full moon.
All of the astrology happening this week takes place in fire & air signs. So, you shouldn’t be in the dredges of introspection or heavy emotions this week. Instead, you’re thinking a lot and maybe doing a lot. When air & fire come together, there’s a lot of get-up and go; you either get an idea and want to immediately act on it, or you fan the flames of a pre-existing plan with levity, imagination, and hope. That’s because air & fire signs are yang signs. They bring a drive to act, take charge, and make things happen; they also bring an influx of intellectualism and curiosity, as well as optimism and a sense of possibility about tomorrow.
And that’s how I would work with the astrology this week: get hopeful, ambitious, and excited about tomorrow. We don’t ever know what tomorrow will bring, so why not think about it positively? The Mercury-Venus sextile is especially good for future-focused thinking, as both planets are in Sagittarius & Aquarius—two signs who think more about tomorrow (and the days after that) than most. Mercury is communicating or translating some sense of optimism and good cheer. It’s an astrological signature that says , “there’s hope on the horizon.” And because it’s happening right before the full moon in Gemini, it imbues that peak moment with that energy.
On Thursday, we hit another highlight: Venus in Aquarius opposing Mars Retrograde in Leo. This aspect stretches the dynamic between independence and togetherness, self-expression versus compromise. Mars in Leo wants to do its own thing, loudly and proudly, while Venus in Aquarius reminds you that relationships thrive on balance, detachment, and individuality. Cue: some dramatic inner monologues or (possibly) tension in partnerships. This tension can be uncomfortable, but it’s a fabulous motivator for making art, working on passion projects, or even redefining how you show up in your relationships. Don’t shy away from the stretch—embrace it.
With Mercury moving forward and a fire-air-dominant week, the overall energy is optimistic, imaginative, and proactive. This isn’t the time to sit back and overanalyze (sorry, water signs); it’s time to get up, act, and dream bigger. This is the week to share ideas, be generous, make bold moves, and start believing in what’s possible. Why settle for small when the universe is literally screaming “Think bigger!”? The week’s astrology is asking: How can you show up as your boldest, weirdest, most imaginative self in every relationship and project?
