As you can see, December has a LOT. Like, a lot a lot. But that’s OK! Because we’re just going to ride it out, yeah? December starts and ends with a New Moon, that’s good. I like having double the opportunities to set goals and intentions. So, newness and fresh starts kicks things off, but the real MVP—or should I say chaos agent of the month—is Mars Retrograde in Leo on Dec. 6. Sluggish, stuck, or running on fumes? Yep, that tracks.
So too does reflection, review, and reassessment of where you’re at and where you’re (not) going. More precisely: where do you want to go? Where might you be feeling a little afraid, trepidatious, or lacking in courage / motivation (hint: it’s in the Leo part of your chart). Mars Retrograde slows your roll, forcing you to reassess your goals, energy levels, and fears. Where are you holding back, afraid, or unsure if you’ve got what it takes to shine?
Let us not forget: Mercury is also retrograde, but it’s backpedaling through Sagittarius. Mercury Retrograde in Sagittarius says, “Hold up—are you sure that’s the direction you want to go?” Two fast-moving planets in two fast-moving fire signs? It’s a cosmic time-out. This is a time when you can’t go as fast (or as hard) as you might want; you aren’t in the position to be charging ahead. You’re in a phase of reflection, pause, and reassessment. If you want to avoid burnout or frustration, you work with this slow down. Reflect, revise, recalibrate.
For Mars, you’re reassessing your goals, your energy & cortisol levels, your heat—what gets your blood pumping / boiling, what you’re passionate about, what you want attention for, and what you might be afraid to chase, or how you might not be shining as brightly as you can. For Mercury, it’s communications, yes, but also long-term aspirations, goals, and targets for tomorrow.
Interestingly, Mars stations retrograde at 6° Leo, which is the same degree Mercury stationed retrograde in Sagittarius last month. (Week, really.)
In the astrology degree theory, the 6th degree is a Virgo degree, so it carries Virgo energy. It also tells me that these two retrograde phases revolve around work ethic & productivity, critical thinking about the everyday application of your mental, physical, and creative energy. Basically, it’s a vibe of critical thinking + practical action = winning. Don’t waste your energy on drama or distractions; and if you do, don’t freak out. This is a month to explore why you’re spinning your wheels, why you’re working so hard and not moving the needle, and what changes you need to make. Review and reflect, but don’t push yourself to act.
Because Mercury Rx is heading towards a square to Saturn, an opposition to Jupiter Rx, and a conjunction to the Sun. So, the part of your chart ruled by Sagittarius is getting a lot of action this first week. The Sun also squares Saturn on Dec. 3. That, paired with Mercury Rx square Saturn on Dec. 5/6, and Mercury Rx opposite Jupiter Rx on Dec. 4, is asking you to think big, but ground your ideas and plans in reality. Work within your confines and commit yourself to one thing at a time.
Now, Dec. 7 is a bit of a hot mess express, and Venus is driving the train. First, the love planet struts into Aquarius, where she trades romance for rebellion and swaps cozy vibes for quirky independence. Venus in Aquarius is that girl—detached, unpredictable, and all about breaking societal norms. This is astrology where you want to get experimental in your relationships, finances, or creative projects, but don’t let detachment turn into avoidance.
But wait, there’s more: Venus immediately conjoins Pluto at 0° Aquarius. Translation? Venus dives headfirst into the deep, dark waters of obsession and transformation. This is the kind of astrology that unearths secrets, power plays, and oh-so-compelling emotional drama. You might feel an intense pull toward someone (or something)—but ask yourself: Is this connection empowering me, or is it just toxic with a cute filter? Examine where your desires might be coming from a place of fear, control, or insecurity. Power struggles? Not today.
Meanwhile, Neptune stations direct in Pisces after months of retrograde shenanigans. This shift feels like wiping a foggy window: you can kind of see clearly again, but it’s still smudged. Neptune direct might nudge you to reconnect with your dreams or spirituality, but don’t expect total clarity just yet. Dream and scheme, but don’t get lost in fantasyland. Use your intuition as a guide, not a GPS. Oh, and the Sun in Sagittarius opposes Jupiter Rx in Gemini on Dec. 7/8 just to make things even more eventful.
By December 12, we’re fully into Mars Retrograde’s drama as it opposes Venus in Aquarius. This is spicy—but like, uncomfortable spicy. Think of it as a clash between “I want to go big and bold” (Mars) and “Can we please just vibe and stay detached?” (Venus). The opposition could stir up tension in relationships, creative projects, or even with yourself (hello, inner critic), but it also opens the door for compromise. If you’re feeling defensive or like you need applause but no one’s clapping, take a breather. This transit asks you to reassess your desires for attention and validation. Maybe you're chasing the wrong audience.
That same week, the Gemini Full Moon on December 15 could drop some truths. Gemini Full Moons love a little chaos, so don’t be surprised if your inbox (literal or metaphorical) overflows with ideas, information, or miscommunications. With Mercury stationing direct the same day, there’s a “figure it out now” vibe, and it sets us up for the Sun-Neptune square on Dec. 18.
Honestly, this feels like being lost in a fog while trying to aim your metaphorical bow and arrow. You want to believe in your dreams, but something feels off. Neptune loves to blur boundaries, and paired with the Sag Sun’s boundless optimism, you might feel overly ambitious or, conversely, like giving up altogether. Spoiler alert: don’t. This transit wants you to check your faith. Where have you been too idealistic? Where can you recalibrate your vision for the future?
By December 24, Jupiter Retrograde in Gemini squares Saturn in Pisces, adding a heavy dose of realism to your holiday week. This transit is like your inner parent saying, “OK, you’ve had your fun. Now, let’s get serious.” The tension between Jupiter’s expansive energy and Saturn’s strict boundaries could highlight areas where you’ve been overcommitting or under-prepared. Don’t worry—this isn’t about shutting down your dreams; it’s about grounding them in reality.
